Notice Regarding the Toyama Plant Fire Incident (Final Report)

Overview and Cause of the Fire Incident

On August 29, 2025, a fire occurred at the Toyama Plant due to approximately 3,000℃ high-temperature coke spewing from the graphitization furnace equipment. The fire was extinguished by firefighting activities on August 31. There were no human casualties or spread to neighboring areas. Investigation results suggest that pressure buildup caused by accumulation of volatile components inside the furnace and inflow of water due to melting of water pipes inside the furnace occurred in succession, leading to a large-scale coke ejection.

Recurrence Prevention Measures and Impact on Performance

As recurrence prevention measures, changes were made to the packing method of the graphitization furnace, covers were installed to prevent coke ejection, and the specifications and positioning of the water pipes were modified. In the consolidated financial statements for the fiscal year ending December 2025, fire losses amounting to 830 million yen were recorded as special losses. The impact on the supply chain of artificial graphite electrodes is limited.
